Abstract

In the midst of an uncertain global economy, Jakarta’s economic recovery continues. The government’s anticipatory efforts with various fiscal and monetary policies have provided optimism for the domestic economy to move positively. One was the rising domestic demand and increased sectoral activity that affected import performance.

Jakarta’s import value in June 2023 was recorded at US$ 6,199.00 million. This figure contracted by 17.06 percent compared to the previous month. A decline in several main commodities triggered the decrease in imports during this period. In total, imports of the ten main commodities decreased by 16.98 percent compared to the previous month.

Meanwhile, the cumulative import value (c-to-c) slightly decreased by 1.93 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. Even though oil and gas imports increased by 7.42 percent, the decline in non-oil and gas imports fell by 2.15 percent, which led to a decrease in imports in this period because the non-oil and gas sector dominated Jakarta’s imports.
