Abstract

Jakarta’s economy continues to grow amidst a global economic slowdown. Jakarta’s exports in May 2023 indicated it reached US$960.60 million, increased by 44.44 percent (month to month). In this period, Jakarta’s exports rebounded after being halted last April due to the shorter working day during Eid al-Fitr.

The increase in exports occurred in all the main export commodities. Animal/vegetable fats and oils became the commodities with the highest growth in exports to China.

In line with month-to-month export growth, year-on-year exports also increased for all main export commodities. Exports in May 2023 rose 34.28 percent compared to the same month the previous year. It was driven by the increase in the export of machinery and mechanical appliances and part thereof to the Philippines.
