Abstract

At the beginning of the third quarter of 2023, Jakarta’s economic recovery continued. An increase in community activity encourages positive economic movement. This movement could be seen from import performance in this period. Imports in July 2023 rose by 0.82 percent compared to the same period in the previous year.

Jakarta’s import value in this period was recorded at US$ 6,804.38 million. This figure increased by 9.77 percent compared to the previous month. Increases in the oil and gas and non-oil and gas sectors drove the import increase in this period. Furthermore, this increase was caused by the rise in imports of several main commodities. In total, imports of ten main commodities increased by 12.00 percent compared to the previous month.

Based on the classification of Broad Economic Categories (BEC), all groups were increased. Imports of the consumer goods group rose 13.67 percent compared to the previous month. It was followed by an increase in imports of capital goods by 11.31 percent. Imports of the intermediate goods also rose 8.31 percent. This rise indicated an increase in sectoral activity and domestic demand.
