Abstract

Amid the current global challenges, although the economy of Jakarta has not fully recovered, the continuity of restitution from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic showed an improvement in several economic indicators. The positive growth of the economy of Jakarta prompted the increasing domestic demand during this period. The rising domestic demand was reflected in the high growth of Jakarta’s imports in August 2022.

Jakarta’s imports during this period reached US$ 7,602.2 million, hitting an all-time high for the highest import figure. This figure grew 12.6 percent when compared to the previous month. The rise in monthto-month imports in this period was mainly caused by increased imports in the oil and gas and non-oil and gas sectors. In line with the increase in month-to-month imports, year-on-year imports grew 35.5 percent compared to August 2021.

In this period, the import value of all groups in the Broad Economic Categories (BEC) classification increased compared to the previous month. As one of the essential factors for the manufacturing sector, imports of capital goods surged by 21.0 percent, while imports of intermediate goods rose by 9.4 percent. This rise further hopes to add optimism and confidence to the rising productivity of the manufacturing sector.
