Abstract

The positive growth continuity of domestic production activity plays a key role in the prospect of accelerated economic recovery in Jakarta. Furthermore, along with the growth of economic activity trends, the increasing public optimism boosted the domestic demand, which was reflected in the surge in year-on-year imports of Jakarta at the beginning of 2022. This rise has indicated an increase in economic activity compared to the previous year, which was means the economic recovery continued to move on the right track.

At the beginning of 2022, Jakarta’s imports clocked to US$ 6.7 billion. While imports slightly decreased by 2,1 percent compared to December 2021 (month-to-month), the figures surged by 48,9 percent compared to January 2021 (year-on-year). The increase in imports in the oil and gas and non-oil and gas sectors triggered the high growth of year-on-year imports.

Based on the broad economic categories (BEC) classification, all groups in this period experienced an increase compared to the same period in the previous year (year-onyear). Imports of capital goods accounted for the largest increase (70.3 percent), followed by imports of raw and auxiliary materials (50.1 percent) and consumer goods (10.1 percent).
