Abstract

In 2021, the government managed to maintain the momentum of economic recovery by issuing several policies, namely COVID-19 Handling Program and National Economic Recovery (PCPEN). Externally, the global economic recovery also showed positive developments, the economy of Indonesia’s trading partner countries grew convincingly. The increase in global demand is also indicated by the increase in world strategic commodity prices. This then pushed exports in 2021 to rebound quite strongly. In this period, the cumulative exports of Jakarta reached US$ 11.2 billion, increasing by 13.7 percent compared to the cumulative exports of the previous year, which indicated the improvement of export growth. This value was the highest cumulative value for the last five years.

Jakarta’s export year-on-year performance in December 2021 increased by 12.7 percent, with a value of US$ 987.9 million. The increase in exports was mainly driven by the rise in vegetable fats and oils, articles of apparel and clothing accessories (knitted), and miscellaneous chemical products.

On the other hand, export performance at the end of the year fell slightly by 4.7 percent compared to November 2021. The sharp decline in exports of pearls, precious and semi-precious stones was the main trigger for the decline in exports.
